Asia-Pacific Digital Rights Forum
14 January 2023 @ 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM BMT
Digital rights in Thailand are in jeopardy as the country has introduced different legislations to restrict the use of the internet. This trend has also become prevalent in other Southeast Asian countries. To discuss the suppression of digital rights in the region, Asia Centre, in partnership with EngageMedia, is hosting the “Asia-Pacific Digital Rights Forum” on 14 January 2023.
The event will start with an annual review of internet freedom in Thailand in 2022, drawing from the key findings of Asia Centre’s reports on Thailand – Internet Freedom in Thailand and Thailand Computer Crime Act: Restricting Digital Rights, Silencing Online Critics. A screening of short, selected ‘Tech Tale’ films, telling the stories of digital rights challenges of Southeast Asia countries, will follow. The event then will conclude with regional solidarity and networking sessions.
The one-day forum will create a physical space for changemakers to further discuss and collaborate on solutions to the region’s most pressing digital rights issues. The forum will also take place in five other cities in the region simultaneously, and you will have the opportunity to hear their perspectives during the regional program session.
