Conference proceedings
On 24-26 August 2022, Asia Centre convened its 7th International Conference: Freedom of Expression in Asia. It attracted 16 partners, which convened 16 panels with total of 63 speakers. The conference was attended by 110 participants. Following the Conference, 5 papers were submitted to Asia Centre which are now published in this Conference Proceedings.
Asia Centre convened its 6th International Conference (2021) titled “COVID-19 in Asia: Communication, Nationalism and Technology”. The conference was held from 8 to 10 September 2021. It attracted 17 partners who convened 15 panels with a total of 51 presentations (See Conference Report for details). Following the conference, 11 papers were submitted to the convenors which are now published as is here.
Asia Centre convened its 5th International Conference (2020) titled “Hate Speech In Asia: Challenges and Solutions” The conference was held on the 7 to 9 October 2020 in a hybrid format. Face-to-Face hosting from both Thammasat University faculty of law and Asia Centre’s premises in Bangkok, Thailand. Over 40 people attended the conference physically and 47 speakers were presenting their topic (see conference report for detail). Due to COVID-19, this conference centred more in presentations rather than paper submissions. And in total 5 papers were made available for the convenors which are now published here as the conference proceedings.
Asia Centre convened its 4th International Conference on Fake News and Elections in Asia from 10 to 12 July 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand . There were 46 presentations on various issues related to fake news. (see Conference Report for details). Following the conference, some 20 papers were submitted to the convenors which are now published as is here. The papers cover a range of topics and can be downloaded via the link.
Asia Centre convened its 3rd International Conference (2018) titled “Business and Human Rights: Holding Governments Accountable in Asia”, the conference was held on 12 and 13 July 2018 at Asia Centre’s premises in Bangkok, Thailand. Over 50 participants were in attendance and presentations were made by over 40 specialists on the topic. following the conference, 17 papers were made available for the convenors which are now published here as the conference proceedings.
Asia Centre convened its 2nd International Conference (2017), “National Human Rights Institutions in Southeast Asia: Challenges of Protection”, on 13th and 14th July 2017 at its premises in Bangkok, Thailand. There 44 participants and 32 presentations were made (See conference report for detail). Following the conference, 24 papers were made available to the convenors which are now published here as the conference proceedings.
Asia Centre convened its 1st International Conference, “Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Southeast Asia”, from 15 to 17 September 2016 at its premises in Bangkok, Thailand. There were thirteen presenters and about fifty participants. The conference attendees came together to discuss the role of the UPR in Southeast Asia over the 2 cycles, the 1st cycle lasted from 2008-2011 and the 2nd cycle from 2012-2016. Following the conference, 8 papers were made available to the convenors which are now published here as the conference proceedings.
