WHAT WE OFFER?

Asia Centre’s Internship Programme offers a well-rounded experience in a research institute that specialises in civil society issues. The programme gives interns the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with an international team. The experience is practice-based where you will gain real work experience in preparation for a future job. Interns are assured of excellent mentorship from our directors and managers on the implementation of projects. They will be exposed to various tasks in media, partnership, programme and research, thereby giving them a well-rounded foundation and integrated experience.

WHY ASIA CENTRE?

  • Receive active mentoring and coaching from our team
  • Gain valuable hands-on working experience on real projects
  • Gain broad human rights related knowledge from all over the region
  • Expand your professional network
  • Well-connected office locations in Cambodia, Malaysia, and Thailand
WHO WE WANT?

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Are passionate about civil society, democracy, and human rights in Asia
  • Understand the value of volunteerism, empathy, and culture of giving
  • Demonstrate commitment, reliability, and a willingness to take on project management challenges
  • Are proactive, problem-solvers, and eager to engage in self-directed learning
  • Work well in teams, support others, and contribute to the Centre’s projects and long-term growth
  • Possess strong English research and drafting skills, social media management ability, and proficiency in design, photography, and video editing
WHAT YOU DO?

Asia Centre interns support all aspects of the Centre’s activities across its regional offices. However, they often have a specific area of responsibility. The Asia Centre internship has 4 focus areas, determined by the applicant’s skills and preferences. Prospective interns can indicate their preferences in the application form, which will be discussed during the interview and confirmed based on skills alignment. The 4 focus areas are:

1. Media

Interns will create digital designs and draft text for the Centre’s website and social media platforms, as well as assist with uploading and managing the published materials. This includes designing infographics and slide deck presentations using Canva as well as drafting event articles, concept notes, media advisories, and press releases. Additionally, they will manage contact media lists and databases.

2. Partnership

Interns will help communicate with partners and stakeholders to invite them to participate in Asia Centre events and activities. They will draft invitation emails, answer queries, and engage in necessary follow ups. Additionally, they will assist in coordinating speaking engagements for Asia Centre’s management team to enhance the Centre’s visibility to potential partners.

3. Programme

Interns will support in the organising of seminars, workshops, and conferences, including online events. They will assist with all logistical arrangements, including carrying out tasks listed in the task list. Additionally, they will be responsible for developing event concept notes and programmes, as well as reaching out to speakers and participants.

4. Research

Interns will undertake desk research by reviewing reports and media content. They will also design and administer online surveys, conduct interviews and assist in focus group discussions. Thereafter, they will draft research findings into notes that will be incorporated into Asia Centre’s research proposals, baseline studies, reports, and media commentaries.
