Artificial Intelligence: Fostering CSOs Advocacy on Ethical AI

19 September @ 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM BMT

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents transformative opportunities and challenges. As AI becomes ingrained in various aspects of our daily lives, from virtual assistants to automated systems, concerns surrounding bias, transparency, and individual rights come to the forefront. Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) play a pivotal role in scrutinising the deployment of AI, ensuring alignment with ethical standards. In this session, participants will delve into the active engagement of CSOs in advocating for the safeguarding of digital rights. In addition, the session will present specific challenges, such as biased algorithms, and examine the societal impact of widespread AI adoption on individual freedoms. Through real-world examples, the session highlights the strategies employed by CSOs to address ethical questions, emphasising the need for a responsible approach to AI usage. Moreover, the session aims to provide actionable insights, empowering participants with knowledge on how to contribute to the ethical use of AI. By acknowledging the delicate balance between innovation and responsible AI, CSOs can establish guidelines that prioritize individual rights and ethical considerations.

The event is a part of the Digital Rights Programme, co-convened by Asia Centre and Google Asia Pacific. Asia Centre and Google Asia Pacific built “Digital Rights Programme for Civil Society Organisations” spanning for nearly a year, which started in December 2023 to engage International NGOs (INGOs) and their CSO partners that currently work on the issues facing digital rights in the Asia-Pacific region. The programme is covering a series of thematic online and onsite activities to address potential gaps that CSOs experience in collaboration when working under this programme.
